Marketing Strategies Done the Right Way

What do marketing strategies done the right way mean? Isn’t marketing all the same thing? It’s not, and we would love to tell you why!

The biggest factor in marketing the right way is to spend your marketing dollars the right way. There are a lot of “marketing traps” that business owners face. Some of these traps include:

  • Me too marketing. Don’t use a strategy just because someone else is doing it. There is no way for you to know exactly what their campaign’s goal was, and they may not know either.
  • Ready, fire, aim. Don’t use a strategy (for example, Facebook advertising with geofencing) just because some sales rep suggested it. Your goals come first, then your strategies.
  • No measurement. The only way to know if your strategies are working is with data. Whether you are tracking clicks on ads or people filling out forms on your website, it has to be measurable.

These days, there are a ton of ads from services saying that they can handle the marketing for you and they can increase your social media followers, or platforms pushing their new self-service ad platform.

While these services and platforms may have good intentions, there are a lot of different factors that can affect the performance of your marketing campaign and, as we said, you want to spend your marketing budget the right way. The goal is to get the biggest return on your investment so strategic marketing ideally pays for itself.

When you are optimizing your marketing tactics, here are some things that can help:

  • Develop marketing goals. Think about what you want to accomplish with your marketing efforts. Then consider whether your current or potential strategy will help you reach your goals. For example, if your goal is to encourage referrals, paid search ads and SEO aren’t likely to be a priority.
  • Do an audit. Talk to a marketing expert (not a salesperson) and have them look at your strategy and data and make recommendations, we happen to know an awesome marketing team 😉.
  • Review and make adjustments. Look over your data from the previous month and note any trends. Are there opportunities to improve? Do it! Are there some strategies that just aren’t working? Lose them!

If you’re thinking, “what does all of this mean and how do I even begin?”, it may be time to hire an expert. Marketing experts understand how to take your marketing goals and develop a strategy to reach them. They also understand how to read your marketing performance data and recommend and implement a new marketing strategy or tweak an existing one.

The advantages of hiring a professional marketing team don’t stop there. They can also help you with other potential pain points like email marketing, market research, blog posts, content creation for content marketing, understanding your target audience, and understanding the different marketing channels and types of marketing.  They help you get your products or services to your target market so you can get long-term results.
